For this years back to school tutorial, I thought it’d be fun to share 12 easy hairstyles using a hair scarf!

- Rattail comb
- Bobby pins
- Clear elastics
- Hair bands
- Medium-hold hairspray
- Hair scarf or Scrunchie Scarf or Wire Headband Scarf or Elastic Headband Scarf
12 Cute and Easy hairstyles for School
1. Half Up Rolled Tuck Instructions
- Step 1 / Tie a scarf around the head, sliding a bobby pin over the scar at the back of the head.
- Step 2 / Take a section of hair on the left side of the head and wrap it around the scarf.
- Step 3 / Pick up a new section of hair and wrap it around the scarf a second time.
- Step 4 / Continue wrapping sections of hair around the scarf.
- Step 5 / Then repeat the same steps with the hair on the right side.
- Step 6 / Slide bobby pins into each piece to hold them in place.
2. Crown Braid Instructions
- Step 1 / Part the hair on the right side.
- Step 2 / Then lay the scarf across the top of the head, about 3 inches back from the hairline and slide a bobby pin over the scarf on the right side of the part.
- Step 3 / Create a dutch braid by picking up a section near the part, with the scarf being the back section, and cross the side strands under the middle while incorporating new hair into the braid.
- Step 4 / Continue the braid down the left side of the head, around the back of the head near the nape of the neck and then up towards the right ear.
- Step 5 / Once all of the hair is combined, braid the rest of the section in a regular three strand braid and tie off the end with a clear elastic band.
- Step 6 / Lay the end of the braid over the top of head and pin it in place with bobby pins.
- Step 7 / Tie the ends of the scarf together and tuck the ends of the scarf along the backside of the braids.
3. Side Braid Instructions
- Step 1 / Tie two small sections, from above both ears, together at the back of the head with a clear elastic.
- Step 2 / Flip the tail around the elastic and lay a hair scarf over the elastic band.
- Step 3 / Begin the hair over the left shoulder and braid it into a three strand braid with the scarf ends in the two outer sections.
- Step 4 / Tie off the end of the braid with an elastic band.
4. High Bun Instructions
- Step 1 / Bring all of the hair into a high ponytail and tie it off with a hair band.
- Step 2 / Pull the hair scarf under the hair band so the center of the scarf is under the band.
- Step 3 / Divide the ponytail into two halves adding one side of the hair scarf into each half.
- Step 4 / Twist each section of hair around the hair scarf to create a rope braid and then tie off the end of the braid with a clear elastic band.
- Step 5 / Take both braids and wrap them in opposite directions around the base of the ponytail and pin them in place with bobby pins.
5. Dutch Braid Ponytail Instructions
- Step 1 / Create a dutch braid on the left side of the head by picking up a section near the part, dividing it into three sections and crossing the side strands under the middle strand while adding new sections into the braid until it reaches the left ear.
- Step 2 / Stop adding new sections into the braid and braid the section down to the ends and slide a bobby pin over the bottom.
- Step 3 / Go back over the braid and pull on the edges to make it fuller.
- Step 4 / Combine all of the hair together into a low ponytail and tie it off with a hair band.
- Step 5 / Remove the bobby pin from the end of the braid and tie a hair scarf around the hair band.
6. Half Up French Braid Bun Instructions
- Step 1 / Pick up a section at the forehead and begin a french braid by crossing the side strands over the middle strand, while incorporating new sections into the braid.
- Step 2 / After 4 stitches of the braid, stop adding in new sections and continue the braid a little further down.
- Step 3 / Tie off the bottom of the braid with an elastic band but on the last wrap only pull the hair halfway through to create a loop.
- Step 4 / Tie a hair scarf over the elastic band, below the braid and above the bun.
7. Topsy Tail Braid Instructions
- Step 1 / Take a large section of hair on both sides of the head, bring them towards the back and tie them together with an elastic band.
- Step 2 / Flip the tail up and around the elastic then gently pull on the bottom of each twist to make them bigger.
- Step 3 / Repeat those steps creating more twisted sections, working down the length of the hair.
- Step 4 / Tie a hair scarf over the very last elastic band.
8. Braided Bun Instructions
- Step 1 / Divide the hair into two sections and tie them into a low ponytail near the nape of theneck.
- Step 2 / Pull the hair scarf through the elastic band of the right ponytail.
- Step 3 / Braid each ponytail into a three strand braid and tie off the bottom with a clear elastic band.
- Step 4 / Wrap the two braids in opposite directions around the head and pin them in place with bobby pins.
9. Half Up Dutch Braid Instructions
- Step 1 / Begin a dutch braid by taking a section at the forehead, dividing it into three sections, and crossing the side strands under the middle strand.
- Step 2 / Incorporate new sections into the braid for four stitches.
- Step 3 / Then stop adding in new sections and do three more stitches of a regular three strand braid.
- Step 4 / Go back over the braid and pull on the edges to make it fuller.
- Step 5 / Tie off the end of the braid with a clear elastic band.
- Step 6 / Pull the hair scarf through the elastic band and tie it into a knot.
10. Rolled-Bun Up-do Instructions
- Step 1 / Combine all of the hair together and tie an elastic band near the very ends of the hair.
- Step 2 / Take a hair scarf and slide it through the elastic band so the center of the scarf is under the elastic.
- Step 3 / Roll the hair upwards toward the head, leaving the ends of the scarf sticking out on each side.
- Step 4 / Pin the roll to the back of the head with bobby pins.
- Step 5 / Tie the ends of the hair scarf over the top of the head.
- Step 6 / Tuck in any loose hair on the sides and pin down any loose pieces with bobby pins.
11. Bubble Ponytail Instructions
- Step 1 / Combine all of the hair into a high ponytail and tie it off with hair band.
- Step 2 / Tie an elastic band about 3 inches down from the hair band and pull on the hair between the hair bands to make it bigger.
- Step 3 / Wrap a small piece of hair around the elastic and pin it underneath with a bobby pin to hide it.
- Step 4 / Repeat those steps twice more to create two more bubbles in the ponytail.
- Step 5 / Tie a hair scarf around the hair band at the top of the ponytail.
12. Mohawk Instructions
- Step 1 / Divide the hair into three sections along the back of the head and tie each section into a ponytail.
- Step 2 / Pull the hair scarf through the top elastic so the center of the scarf sits over the elastic.
- Step 3 / Leaving out the hair scarf, take the top ponytail, twist it together and tie it into a knot, making a loop and pulling the end of the ponytail through the center.
- Step 4 / Pin down the edges with bobby pins.
- Step 5 / Repeat those steps with the remaining two ponytails.
- Step 6 / Loop the hair scarf through and around the buns and then tie the ends together at the nape of the neck.
