Michael Ketterer, America’s Got Talent Finalist, Arrested for Domestic Violence
Michael Ketterer, a finalist just this week on Season 13 of America’s Got Talent, was arrested on Thursday afternoon and charged with domestic violence.
The arrest took place just one day after Ketterer lost out to magician Shin Lim for the latest title on this long-running NBC competition.
The aspiring singer was taken into custody by the Los Angeles Police Department around 3:45 p.m. yesterday, multiple outlets have confirmed.
According to TMZ, Ketterer was arrested after he got into a fight with his wife, Ivey, who reportedly displayed a visible red mark when the authorities arrived at their hotel room.
Ketterer told the aforementioned website that the entire thing was a “misunderstanding,” alleging that his wife told cops she didn’t want to press charges.
Ketterer, who works as a pediatric mental health nurse and who resides in Knoxville, Tennessee, impressed the judges and the audience on Tuesday night when he belted out the emotional lyrics of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”
He said during the finale that he was dedicating the track to “my God because he moved mountains.”
Prior to this performance, Ketterer had advanced all the way to the live rounds after Simon Cowell hit the Golden Buzzer during an earlier audition.
He had also received a promise from Garth Brooks (yes, Garth Brooks!) that the country legend would write a song for Ketterer if he made it all the way to the finals.
Brooks has since invited Ketterer to sing at his sold-out Notre Dame Stadium concert on October 20. It’s unclear at the moment whether or not this invitation still stands.
Said Brooks in a Facebook Live video, after being told about Ketterer by Cowell:
“We’re going to suit you up with a band. We’re going to put you out in front of 85,000 of the sweetest people you’ve ever played for before, and they’re going to be pulling for you like no other.
“This is going to be good.”
Ketterer, however, was one of the few America’s Got Talent finalists NOT scheduled to perform with winner Lim at America’s Got Talent Live in Las Vegas in November.
Confirmed to perform are Courtney Hadwin, Brian King Joseph, Vicki Barbolak, Duo Transcend and Samuel J. Comroe.
On a personal note, The 41-year-old singer and Ivey were high school sweethearts who chose to pursue adoption when their daughter, Sophie, was six years old and asked for brothers.
The couple went on to adopt five boys from foster care, starting with brothers Jared, Chase and Jeriah. Then came Sean, who at one point was acually homeless; and then Rodrigo, a nine-year-old who suffers from cerebral palsy.
Ketterer ended his strong America’s Got Talent run by finishing in fifth place.
No word yet from anyone associated with the show or NBC.
As of this writing, Michael is free on $50,000 bail.
